WP Engine restructured its lineup in 2026: the old Startup/Professional/Growth/Scale names are retired. It now sells Essential (site-count tiers of 1, up to 3, up to 10, and up to 30 sites; 25,000–400,000 visits; 10–50 GB storage), Core (from $400/mo, up to 150 sites — no longer quote-only), and custom Enterprise. Essential entry pricing as of September 2026: $35/mo billed monthly, or $28/mo for the first year on annual billing ($336 upfront, a 20%-off new-customer promo — renewal pricing is 'subject to change' per the fine print). All plans include the Genesis framework and StudioPress theme library, plus separate dev/staging/production environments per site.

Fine print that matters: the published prices are flagged as first-year pricing for new customers.

WP Engine is the managed-WordPress host where renewal deserves the most attention: its own pricing page states 'product renewal pricing subject to change.' That's not a promo mechanic like shared hosting's 6× cliffs — it's an open-ended reservation. Before you commit, get your year-two rate in writing from sales. Our tracker lists WP Engine without a renewal multiple for exactly this reason: there's no published number to hold them to.

Choose WP Engine if

• Agencies and businesses that want mature WordPress ops (staging pipelines, user permissions) as a product
• Sites that benefit from Genesis/StudioPress themes being bundled
• Teams that want enterprise support paths (phone support exists on higher tiers)

Look elsewhere if

• Renewal-price certainty matters to you — see above; Rocket.net and Kinsta publish flat structures
• Storage-heavy sites — 10–50 GB caps across the published tiers
• You're hosting anything that isn't WordPress

Inbound: free automated migration via their plugin is standard. Outbound: WordPress portability is normal, backups are downloadable, and the dev/stage/prod structure exports as a plain site. If you use bundled Genesis themes, confirm licensing for use after you leave — the bundle is a perk of the platform, not a purchase.

Visit counting and overage billing apply (their own pages call traffic figures approximate); a spike can bill you even when the site holds up fine. Several capabilities that feel like table stakes — monitoring, automated plugin updates, extra DDoS protection — are paid add-ons below the Core tier, per the published plan matrix. Price the add-ons you'd actually want before comparing WP Engine's sticker price to Kinsta's.
