Plans, as published
Cloudways sells managed hosting on top of clouds you choose — DigitalOcean, Vultr, AWS, or GCP. The entry DigitalOcean-based plan runs $11/mo (1 vCPU / 2 GB / 50 GB / 2 TB transfer) as published in July 2026, billed hourly ($0.0357/hr) so you can destroy a server mid-month and pay only for hours used. Bigger DO-based tiers scale to $88/mo (4 vCPU / 8 GB) and beyond; AWS/GCP-based plans cost meaningfully more for equivalent RAM.
Everything is flat-rate: no intro pricing, no renewal jump. Promos exist (a '40% off for 4 months' offer was running at our September 2026 check), but the standard rate is the rate.
The renewal math
There is no renewal delta — $11/mo now is $11/mo in year three, which is why Cloudways sits at 1× (flat) in our renewal tracker. The budget creep here comes from add-ons instead: offsite backups bill at $0.033/GB per server, bandwidth overage at $0.02/GB on DO-based plans, and email is not included at all — Rackspace mailboxes are an add-on at $1/mailbox/mo, per the published pricing page.

Choose Cloudways if

- You need bundled email — budget $1/mailbox/mo extra or host mail elsewhere

- You want root SSH control — Cloudways manages the stack and limits low-level access
Migration notes
Inbound: a free managed migration for your first site, plus an unlimited-use WordPress migrator plugin for the rest. Outbound: sites are standard LAMP/LEMP under the hood and export cleanly, but note the platform layer (server configs, Cloudways-specific caching) doesn't travel — you're migrating the site, not the server.
Honest limitations
The management layer is the product: you trade root access and OS choice for the ops work they do. Add-ons are where the advertised $11 becomes $15–20 in practice for a production site (backups, email, premium support tiers). And because your server lives on a third-party cloud, region availability and hardware generations depend on the underlying provider you picked.
