Our take

Unbeatable on renewal price if you already use Cloudflare DNS — no markup, no upsells, no nonsense.

Cloudflare Registrar, beyond the scorecard

Pricing from our July 2026 verification pass; platform requirements per Cloudflare's published registrar documentation — verify with the vendor before you buy.

Plans, as published

Cloudflare Registrar sells domains at wholesale cost with zero markup: $10.46/yr for .com at our July 2026 pass (registry fee plus the ICANN fee, exactly), with free WHOIS privacy. Expect roughly $11.17 after Verisign's announced November 2026 wholesale increase — when the registry raises prices, Cloudflare's price moves by that amount and no more.

Full disclosure that doubles as a trust signal: Cloudflare pays us nothing. It's a top pick because the pricing model is unbeatable, not because it converts.

The renewal math

At-cost means the renewal delta is exactly 1.0× forever, by policy rather than promo. There is no cheaper way to hold a .com long-term — every other registrar's renewal includes margin. The trade is structural: you're not buying a domain product, you're extending your Cloudflare account, with everything that implies (see limitations).

Renewal figures come from our Hosting Renewal Price Index — intro vs renewal pricing for every provider we cover, verified on vendor sites and dated.

Choose Cloudflare Registrar if

  • Existing Cloudflare DNS users — registration is then near-frictionless
  • Long-term domain holders optimizing total cost of ownership
  • Anyone who wants registrar, DNS, and CDN consolidated in one security model

Look elsewhere if

  • You need custom or third-party nameservers — Cloudflare's registrar documentation states domains must run on Cloudflare's nameservers, full stop
  • Your TLD isn't in its (large but incomplete) catalog
  • You want internationalized domain names — its docs state IDNs aren't supported

Migration notes

Transfers in require the domain to already be active on Cloudflare DNS, then cost the wholesale rate (including the year extension). Transfers out follow standard process — but plan your DNS exit at the same time, since leaving the registrar usually means leaving Cloudflare nameservers, and those records need a new home before the switch.

Honest limitations

The nameserver lock-in is the real price: per Cloudflare's own docs you cannot point a Registrar-held domain at another DNS provider. Support for registrar issues rides Cloudflare's general support, which on free accounts is community/ticket-tier. And there's no aftermarket, no premium-domain brokerage, no bundled mailboxes — it's deliberately a utility, not a domain marketplace.

Testing status: we haven't load-tested Cloudflare Registrar ourselves yet. This profile is built from vendor documentation, published plan specs and SLAs, and long-running community reports — and the pricing above is verified on the vendor's site, not copied from marketing. See how we test for exactly what that means.
