Our take

The biggest registrar on earth, and the clearest example of the pricing pattern this site exists to surface: penny-priced first years, multi-year prepay requirements, and renewals at more than double what the quiet competitors charge. Everything works — you just pay brand-name rates for it, every year.

Starting price

from $0.01 first year (.com) requires a 3-year purchase — $45.99 due at checkout renews at $22.99/yr Verified September 2026 Renewal read from GoDaddy's own page markup. More than double what Porkbun, Cloudflare, or Spaceship charge at renewal; privacy is free via Domains By Proxy. No markup multiple shown — ratio math against a $0.01 promo would be meaningless. Hosting renewal rates aren't printed on the sales page at all (cart-only), so those stay unverified.

## GoDaddy, beyond the scorecard

Plan details as published on godaddy.com, September 2026 (read from same-day captures of GoDaddy's own pages — the live site blocks automated readers) — verify with the vendor before you buy.

### Plans, as published

GoDaddy's domain headline as published in September 2026: .com at $0.01 for the first year — with a required 3-year purchase that puts $45.99 on the card today ($0.01 plus two additional years at $22.99). WHOIS privacy is included free via Domains By Proxy on eligible TLDs, and advertised prices exclude taxes and ICANN fees.

Shared hosting runs Economy at $5.99/mo, Deluxe at $7.99/mo, and Ultimate at $12.99/mo — each price valid 'for the first 3-year term', so Economy is really $215.64 upfront. Email is resold Microsoft 365, with Email Essentials at $1.99 per mailbox/month for the first year against a $8.99 list price.

### The renewal math

The .com renews at $22.99/yr, per GoDaddy's own page markup — more than double Porkbun ($11.08), Cloudflare ($10.46), or Spaceship ($9.98). Over five years, a GoDaddy .com costs about $91.97 against Spaceship's $48.80 for the identical domain.

Hosting is the bigger disclosure gap: the sales page prints intro prices and struck-through list prices but no renewal rate at all — GoDaddy's own fine print says only that 'product renewal pricing \[is\] subject to change' and the number surfaces in the cart. We don't publish renewal figures we can't verify, so our tracker lists GoDaddy hosting without one — treat the $11.99 struck-through list price on Economy as the floor, not the answer.

Renewal figures come from our [Hosting Renewal Price Index](/articles/hosting-renewal-prices) — intro vs renewal pricing for every provider we cover, verified on vendor sites and dated.

### Choose GoDaddy if

- Buyers consolidating domains, hosting, email, and payments under one familiar vendor
- People who want 24/7 phone support from the biggest brand in the space
- Short-horizon projects that will genuinely exit before the first renewal

### Look elsewhere if

- Anyone keeping a domain long-term — the $22.99 renewal compounds every year against $10–12 rivals
- Upsell-averse buyers: checkout and dashboard steer hard toward add-ons, and some bundled trials auto-convert to paid
- Anyone unwilling to prepay 3 years to get the advertised price

### Migration notes

Inbound transfers are cheap ($0.01 promo at check time) and the portfolio tooling is genuinely mature at scale. Outbound is standard EPP transfer with no unusual friction — the classic pattern is buyers arriving for the penny promo and leaving for a flat-renewal registrar at year three, which GoDaddy's own 3-year prepay structure conveniently delays.

### Honest limitations

The business model is the limitation: GoDaddy is a publicly traded company (NYSE: GDDY) built on renewal-rate spread and attach-rate, and the product experience is engineered accordingly — auto-renew on by default, trials that convert, add-ons that require upgrading every mailbox on the domain. None of it is hidden, but all of it is somebody's job to maximize. Its Trustpilot average is genuinely high (4.4 from 140k+ solicited reviews) — support satisfaction and pricing structure are different questions.

Testing status: we haven't load-tested GoDaddy ourselves yet. This profile is built from vendor documentation, published plan specs and SLAs, and long-running community reports — and the pricing above is verified on the vendor's site, not copied from marketing. See [how we test](/how-we-test) for exactly what that means.
