# Cloudways Review: The Flat-Price Managed Cloud

Cloudways sells managed hosting on a cloud you pick — DigitalOcean, Vultr, AWS, or GCP — and it sells it at one price that does not change. The flat $11/mo entry rate, verified on cloudways.com on September 7, 2026, is the whole argument: no teaser, no renewal cliff, no calendar reminder at month eleven. Two things complicate that, and both belong in a review rather than on a plan page.

Summary verdict

## Our verdict

Buy Cloudways for the billing model, not for a bargain. $11/mo for a DigitalOcean-backed 1 vCPU / 2 GB server is $11/mo in year three, which is why the brand sits at 1× (flat) in our renewal tracker — almost nothing else in hosting does. Two caveats decide the purchase. Add-ons are where the advertised $11 becomes $15 to $20 for a production site: offsite backups bill at $0.033/GB per server, bandwidth overage at $0.02/GB on DigitalOcean-based plans, and email is not included at all (Rackspace mailboxes are an add-on at $1/mailbox/mo). And the managed-WordPress Autonomous tier now starts at $99/mo for Growth with one app — the former $35 tier is gone. If you came for a managed cloud server, this is still the sweet spot between a raw VPS and full-managed hosting. If you came for managed WordPress near $35, the answer changed.

## The flat price is the product

The entry DigitalOcean-based plan runs $11/mo for 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB storage and 2 TB transfer, as published in July 2026 and re-checked on September 7, 2026. It bills hourly at $0.0357/hr, which is more useful than it sounds: you can spin up a server, break something, destroy it mid-month and pay only for the hours used. Bigger DigitalOcean-based tiers scale to $88/mo for 4 vCPU and 8 GB and upward from there, while AWS- and GCP-based plans cost meaningfully more for equivalent RAM. The full grid, cloud by cloud, lives on our Cloudways profile — there is no point reprinting it here.

What matters for the decision is the shape of the bill rather than its first number. Everything is flat-rate: no introductory period, no renewal step. Promotions exist — a 40%-off-for-four-months offer was running at our September 2026 check — but the standard rate is the rate, and there is no renewal delta to diarize. That is unusual enough in this market to be the main reason to shortlist Cloudways at all.

The budget creep arrives sideways, through add-ons. Offsite backups bill at $0.033/GB per server, bandwidth beyond the included transfer at $0.02/GB on DigitalOcean-based plans, email at $1/mailbox/mo because none is bundled, and premium support sits on its own tiers. Price a real production site at $15 to $20/mo rather than $11, and the comparison against teaser-priced hosts still holds up — just not at the headline figure.

## The $99 managed-WordPress change buyers need to know

Cloudways' managed WordPress product, Autonomous, now starts at $99/mo — the Growth tier, one application — and the former $35/mo entry tier is gone, per the pricing we verified on September 7, 2026. If you have read an older recommendation of Cloudways for managed WordPress, it was almost certainly written against that $35 price, and it no longer describes anything you can buy.

This matters more than a normal price rise because it moves the product into a different comparison set. At $35 it competed with budget-to-mid managed WordPress; at $99 for a single app it is priced against the upper end of the category. The flat-billing virtue survives the change — $99 is still $99 at renewal — but flatness is a tiebreaker, not a reason to pay three times more for one site.

The non-WordPress side of the catalogue is untouched by this. If what you actually want is a managed server you can put WordPress on yourself, with the caching stack configured for you, the $11 entry plan is the product being reviewed here and the Autonomous pricing is irrelevant to you.

## Cloudways vs Kinsta

These two are the clean comparison because they share the honest-billing trait and differ on everything else. Both sit at 1× in our renewal tracker: Kinsta's entry single-site plan is $35/mo month-to-month or $350/yr on annual billing — about $29/mo effective, two months free — with vendor-listed limits of 35,000 visits and 10 GB storage, on Google Cloud's premium-tier network with Cloudflare enterprise-class CDN integration, as published in September 2026. Neither host plays the intro-price game.

For a managed server, Cloudways wins on price and flexibility: $11/mo against $35/mo, hourly billing, your choice of underlying cloud, and server cloning for agencies. For managed WordPress specifically, the Autonomous repricing inverts the result — Kinsta's $35/mo entry tier now undercuts Cloudways' $99/mo managed-WordPress starting point by a wide margin, and includes the staging and daily backups you would otherwise assemble yourself.

The shared weakness is email. Kinsta does not offer it at all; Cloudways sells Rackspace mailboxes as a $1/mailbox/mo add-on. Either way, business email is a separate purchase and a separate migration. Our full head-to-head on the two is linked below.

## Getting in and out

Inbound, Cloudways publishes a free managed migration for your first site plus an unlimited-use WordPress migrator plugin for the rest — a stronger onboarding offer than most hosts at this price, and the kind of thing that makes a trial cheap to attempt.

Outbound is where the platform layer shows. Sites run as standard LAMP or LEMP underneath and the files and databases export cleanly, but the server configuration and the Cloudways-specific caching do not travel with them. You are migrating a site, not a server, and the next host will need its own stack tuned. Worth knowing before you build operational habits around features that only exist inside the panel.

The structural trade is the same one in both directions: you give up root access and OS choice in exchange for the ops work being done for you. And because the server lives on a third-party cloud, region availability and hardware generation depend on the provider you picked rather than on Cloudways.

## What this review is based on

This review rests on Cloudways' own published plan and pricing pages and its published terms, read on a dated pass — plan detail as published in July 2026, prices re-verified on September 7, 2026 — and on our renewal tracker, which records the intro-to-renewal multiple for every provider we cover. It is not a hands-on account review. We do not hold a Cloudways account, and nothing here should be read as a report of using the product: no dashboard walkthrough, no support-ticket experience, no benchmark of a site running on their hardware.

Normally the second leg of a review like this is our own external availability monitoring — four regions, a five-minute interval, a quorum rule before anything counts as an outage. Cloudways is not in that cohort. It was one of seven providers that answered our US probe while rejecting the same requests from Canadian, European and Asia-Pacific addresses with HTTP 403 bot-mitigation challenges, and one of two that challenged even robots.txt, the file published specifically for automated readers. On September 14, 2026 it was dropped from the study entirely, after blocking every probe region on both the homepage and robots.txt, leaving no honest way to measure it. Those 403s are edge security decisions, not outages, so counting them as downtime would have been dishonest — but it does mean we publish no uptime figure for Cloudways in the August 8 to September 22, 2026 window, and we will not infer one.

So here is the honest boundary. Published pages and terms tell you what the deal is: what a plan costs now, what it costs at renewal, what is metered, what is an add-on, and what the refund and support commitments say. They cannot tell you how fast your site will feel, how good the support is on a bad day, or how available the platform has been — and in Cloudways' case, three of the thirty-seven providers in the study cohort do not permit independent automated measurement, and Cloudways is one of them. Treat that as a data gap, not a verdict either way.

### Best fit for

- + Growing sites that outgrew shared hosting but do not want to run a server
- + Agencies that want server cloning, staging, and a server per client
- + Buyers who would rather pay one honest rate than chase intro pricing

### Consider another option if

- − You need bundled email — nothing is included; budget $1/mailbox/mo or host mail elsewhere
- − You wanted managed WordPress near $35/mo — Autonomous now starts at $99/mo
- − You want root SSH and OS choice — the management layer is the product

Questions readers ask

## FAQ

No. Billing is flat-rate — $11/mo for the entry DigitalOcean-based plan now is $11/mo in year three, which is why Cloudways shows as 1× in our renewal tracker. Billing is hourly ($0.0357/hr), so you can also destroy a server mid-month and pay only for the hours used. Promotions exist, but the standard rate is the rate rather than a teaser.
