# Best Web Hosting According to Reddit, Priced and Checked

Search 'best web hosting reddit' and you land on one pinned thread: the r/webhosting moderators' shortlist of hosts they have personally used and would use again — KnownHost, NixiHost, and InMotion in the US, Krystal and Zume in the UK. It is a better list than most, and it is also a list with no prices on it. We verified every plan, renewal rate, refund window, and support claim on the vendors' own pages on September 25, 2026, and put the five into the same uptime study as everyone else we cover.

Summary verdict

## Short answer

The thread is right about the direction and vague about the numbers. KnownHost is the standout for US buyers: the renewal price is printed on the plan card and it is 1.3× the intro ($6.71 → $8.95/mo), the smallest disclosed gap of any discounting shared host we track. In the UK, Zume and Krystal both sell one price with no intro discount at all — £6 and £7 a month — which is the honest model, priced accordingly. NixiHost and InMotion are solid picks with a caveat each: NixiHost publishes no renewal price, and InMotion's renewal is 3.1× its 3-year intro.

## What the thread actually says — and what it doesn't

The guide (last updated July 15, 2026) is curated by the subreddit's volunteer moderators, who say they have hosted busy WordPress sites on each pick and 'occasionally secret-shop support'. Its selection criteria are the right ones: transparent renewal pricing, modern hardware, in-house support, open control panels, and company stability. What it leaves out is the number after each name. It also notes, to its credit, that every recommended host 'has a representative in the subreddit' — useful for getting help, and a reason to treat the list as a practitioner endorsement rather than an independent benchmark.

So here are the numbers, from each vendor's own pages on September 25, 2026. Where a vendor bills in sterling we show the USD equivalent at that day's rate (£1 = $1.32); the sterling figure is the one you pay.

## The verified price table

KnownHost — Basic Web Hosting $6.71/mo on a 3-year commitment, renews at $8.95/mo (1.3×), printed on the plan card. LiteSpeed + LSCache, CloudLinux, Imunify360, cPanel; Atlanta, Seattle, or Amsterdam. 30-day money-back; free cPanel/Plesk/DirectAdmin migrations; tickets and chat 24/7 with a quoted 3-minute typical response. Founded 2006, privately owned.

NixiHost — Mini Shared $4.99/mo billed annually ($7.99 month-to-month). No renewal price published anywhere we could find, and the terms reserve the right to change pricing without notice — so 'not verified', not 'flat'. cPanel, LiteSpeed, Redis, CloudLinux, Imunify360, JetBackup on NixiHost-owned hardware in Houston. 30-day money-back; free cPanel-to-cPanel migration. Founded 2007.

InMotion Hosting — Launch $4.79/mo on a 3-year term, renews at $14.99/mo (3.1×), disclosed on the card. NGINX-based UltraStack rather than LiteSpeed, by design. Virginia, California, Amsterdam. 90-day money-back — the longest we track; phone support from the Power tier ($5.79 → $18.99) up.

Krystal — Amethyst £7/mo (~$9.24) including VAT, no introductory rate; annual billing saves 16%, biennial 25%. LiteSpeed + LSCache on triple-replicated NVMe, cPanel, London plus Amsterdam and New Jersey. 60-day money-back; free cPanel migrations; UK phone and chat on weekday hours, tickets 24/7. Founded 2002.

Zume — Launch £6/mo (~$7.92) including VAT, monthly with no contract, and a published promise that 'the price you sign up on is the price you pay at renewal'. cPanel, LiteSpeed, AMD EPYC, NVMe, staging, email included. 14-day refund; same-day migration; weekday chat, tickets otherwise. Founded 2017 as Gnu Host.

## How the five compare to the hosts Reddit tells you to leave

The thread's villains are the 'mega-brands with impossibly low intro pricing', and the renewal index backs the diagnosis: Hostinger renews at 3.7× its $2.99 intro, SiteGround at 6×, IONOS at 14×. Against that, KnownHost's 1.3× and InMotion's 3.1× are disclosed and moderate, and Krystal and Zume have no cliff at all. The price of that honesty is the sticker: £6–7 a month is roughly what a US budget host charges after its promo expires.

What the thread cannot tell you is who actually stays up. All five are now monitored from four regions in our uptime study — as a separate second cohort, because the original 37-provider roster was frozen when its methodology was published. No results yet; when there are, they will be on each provider's profile with the same exclusion rules as the first cohort.

## Our read on the r/webhosting list

Take the list. Then do what the list doesn't: read the renewal figure before the intro figure, prefer the hosts that print it (KnownHost, InMotion, Krystal, Zume), and ask NixiHost for its renewal rate in writing before prepaying a year. One thread commenter asked what happens to KnownHost's price after the 3-year discount; KnownHost's own account answered that it renews at 'the full rate' with longer terms still discounted — the right kind of answer, and the kind you should want in writing from any host.

Two thread claims we could not confirm on the vendors' own sites and therefore don't repeat: that NixiHost was founded by former HostGator staff, and that Krystal is the UK's largest independent host. Neither changes the recommendation; both are the sort of thing a curated list absorbs without checking, and the sort of thing we exist to check.

### Best fit for

- + Anyone who searched 'best hosting reddit' and wants the thread's picks with prices attached
- + Owners leaving a mega-brand host at renewal time and wanting a smaller, disclosed-price alternative
- + UK and EU buyers who want sterling billing without an intro-rate cliff

### Consider another option if

- − You want the cheapest possible first year — Hostinger at $2.99/mo or IONOS at $1/mo beat all five on the intro price (and lose on renewal)
- − You need a VPS or cloud shortlist — the thread is explicitly shared and WordPress hosting only, and our VPS rankings live elsewhere
- − You need Asia-Pacific hosting — none of the five has an APAC location; Krystal and KnownHost reach Amsterdam, InMotion Amsterdam, and that is the limit

Questions readers ask

## FAQ

In the pinned r/webhosting guide, KnownHost draws by far the most customer comments — long-tenured customers praising ticket response times, with one downtime complaint answered publicly by KnownHost's account. It is also the pick with the smallest disclosed renewal step (1.3×) in our verified data.
